Scott Cornelius is the owner/principal of Scott Cornelius Architect, PC and SC Design Studio (Interior Design Company), an Architecture and Interiors firm based in New York City, established in 1998. Mr Cornelius work has been featured in a number of American design magazines and is also featured in a number of Interior Design, Architectural and Landscape Design books available in America (publication list available on request). Mr Cornelius was born and raised in the state of North Carolina and received his undergraduate and graduate degrees from North Carolina State University located in Raleigh, N.C in 1984 and 1985. He moved to New York City to begin his Architectural and Design career in 1985 where he became the Senior Designer for Alan Wanzenberg and the late Jed Johnson (Interior Design Hall of Fame inductee) While at Johnson and Wanzenberg, Mr Cornelius completed a large number of the firm’s most acclaimed residential and resort commissions including the well know Vermont resort of Twin Farms. After establishing his own firm in 1998 Mr Cornelius continued his working relationships with Twin Farms and other existing clients as well as engaging with new clients. In 2002, Mr Cornelius established SCDS Ltd. A separate company to market his original designs of home furnishings including: lighting, furniture, and fabrics available directly to the trade, and through selective trade showrooms, as well as commissioned work for clients. He was proud to have been selected to provide a large number of furnishings for the 2008 redecoration of the private quarters of the American President and First Family, and the 2009 redecoration of the Oval Office of the American President and Public Spaces in the White House, Washington, DC.
Mr Cornelius’s firms offer a comprehensive range of design services from complete Architectural and Interior Design packages to limited Architectural services in conjunction with outside Interior Designers or other Professionals. Mr Cornelius is happy to work in conjunction with other professionals to realize a client’s vision with a team best fitting the client’s needs.
The focus of the firm’s work is to provide the highest degree of design resolution and quality of design and craftsmanship for each project regardless of project size. The style and character of the firm’s work is varied and grows out of the local traditions, the site and the owner’s personal dreams and desires. Mr Cornelius’s desire is to create work both current and referential, rooted in its time and location and meeting or exceeding the client’s program and desires. The work is intended to be refined and understated: hallmarks of American high-end luxury design. Each commission is specially tailored to the owners’ individual desires, personal style, while address contemporary needs and functions of a modern lifestyle while enveloping their occupants in a secure sanctuary far from the demands of the busy everyday world. Mr Cornelius’s hope and desire is that all his work is both of the moment and timeless in it beauty.
Mr Cornelius is a member of the American Institute of Architects, as well as the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards. He also currently has Architectural Licenses in New York, Connecticut and Vermont and his work has been featured extensively in Architectural Digest, Elle Décor, House and Garden, Town and Country, and a number of books. His design work is also represented in the permanent collections of the Smithsonian Museum, Washington, D.C. and the Victoria and Albert Museum, London.
